Most New Brunswickers will enjoying a long weekend which is usually very well received. Time for relaxation and time spent with family and friends. With that in mind, here are some tips and tricks to maximize the fun this weekend:
• Busy times in the Maritimes! Long weekends tend to be very busy with family and friends visiting and all kinds of activities and events to attend. So, be prepared for traffic and lots of circulation. Plan ahead, leave early and drive with extra care. Everyone deserves to get to their destination safely.
• Eat it and store it! Who doesn’t like a barbeque or picnic on a beautiful summer day. However, food preparation and hot summer weather can be dangerous, and precaution should be taken. For example, do not remove the meat out of the fridge until you are ready to prepare it otherwise it can spoil quickly. In addition, make sure that meet is cooked well and then stored after consumption. This also applies to any other perishable food items.
• Keep hydrated! While you are out and about, it is easy to forget to hydrate. However, if you plan to stay out in the warm sun, or doing activities, it is always a good idea to drink water in advance and during. If you begin to experience symptoms of heat stroke, drink cool water (not ice water) and take a rest in some shade or indoors.
• “Everybody’s free (to wear sunscreen)”. Catchy song but most importantly a good reminder. If you are planning to spend time outdoors, do not forget to apply and re-apply sunscreen even on cloudy days. Choose a product that provides UVA and UVB protection.
That said, time to prepare for a great weekend ahead! Stay safe and have fun!
